Disposable vapes will be prohibited by 2025

Disposable Vape will be banned in Jersey next year, it is confirmed.

The States Assembly approved the propositions from the infrastructure minister who expressed concern about environmental effect of single-use e-cigarettes.

The States came to an agreement in unanimity, with 45 votes for and 0 against on Wednesday.

Shops will have the ability to offer to sell whatever stock they have prior to when the ban goes into effect.

The objective is to minimize the environmental effects of disposable cigarettes that contain plastics metals, as well as batteries made of lithium.

Efforts to Reduce Youth Vaping with Ban

Constable Andy Jehan, who brought the plans before the States Assembly, previously said an overwhelming proportion of youth people used disposable vapes.

He added: "The increasing popularity of single-use vapes has meant that there's more vapes being disposed of in various ways, all of which are problematic.

"The use of materials including plastics, metals and a lithium battery in each single use device starkly contrasts with sustainability commitments to reduce waste, maximise resources and re orientate behaviour towards the circular economy."

The move follows similar ones that have been made in UK and Guernsey - where it could be a criminal offense.
